A Navy medic and a nurse/doctor were in one of the battles of the Pacific campaign during WW2. After the battle the ships left and they accidentally were left behind, alone in the island. I think they had a child, but I'm not sure if they were rescued.

I don't know about a story but there was a movie called

That had a marine and a nun stranded on a island.

IIRC, the nurse hates him because of lies told by his ex.
They are taken at gun point to treat an obviously dieing marine in a cave. Marine dies, his buddy dies as well (well worn I'm alright, treat my battle buddy trope).
Ships leave, they set up camp, he saves her from a left behind Japanese soldier (another old one).
End up becoming friends and lovers, getting pregnant, IIRC she dies in child birth.
