Unfortunately I do not remember the writers pen name.
The basic plot is a farmer is sitting on his porch when a ship crashes into his barn. Inside lies an alien female with feline characteristics.
After healing her, he decides to go with her into space. Using battles he saw in the last starfighter and other movies and television he impresses the military of her species. Hope that helps
