I've read so many smart, kick-ass chick stories and books that all I can remember unique about this one is that the high school girl MC among her many other achievements writes a symphony that she conducts with orchestras around the world. I think I read it here, but it may be a published book. Thanks, all.

I have been reading a story with somewhat similar elements on "Beyond the Far Horizon", Gina's site.

As richardshagrin mentions, there's the 'Kira at Tanglewood' story on the 'Beyond the Far Horizon' site, by Gina Marie Wylie. Previous to that however and starting Kira's life, there was a shortish story called 'Tree Symphony', which may be the one you're after. It was, like the 'Kira' story, originally available for free on the same site, but after a time it was taken down and you'll need to wander over to Amazon for it now.

We learned that Susan was scheduled to conduct her First Symphony with the New York Philharmonic on Saturday. Strangely believe it, tickets were found for the composer/conductor's relatives and friends.
Since what I know about symphonic conducting would rattle on the head of a pin, I didn't realize there was anything out of the ordinary when Susan spent only a single afternoon rehearsing with the orchestra.
The character (Susie and Susan) in the two stories by Morgan previously mentioned is the same one - but I think she is not yet in her teens in either story.
There is another symphony composer story here: "Rachel" by Will Bailey but while Rachel compose music including symphonies and play piano, she do not conduct.
So it's probably "Tree Symphony" by Gina Marie Wylie at amazon.
Wow, thanks everyone. Gina'story is the one I was thinking of. I've bought some of her Kinsella stories on Amazon because I wasn't smart enough to download them in time. All the other recommendations have gone into my library with notes so I don't forget them.
