Some years ago, I read a story that I'd like to re-read. Just about the only thing I'm certain about is that, to make a living, the MC translated how-to instructions from foreign languages (where machines were manufactured) into English. I'm not sure what kind of machines - though possibly big industrial stuff. I believe he was having marital problems (maybe because his spouse thought his job was insufficiently upwardly mobile). I think, but not sure, he was friends with a neighbor woman who was having marital problems of her own.

Grizz, that's a great story but I don't think it's the one he's looking foe. The MC is head of the CADD department for an engineering company and there is no neighbor lady. The description vaguely reminds me of something by Artie but I can't remember what.

I do not remember the author, I believe he is Canadian, The MC is fired and his wife is cheating on him. Neighbor hooks him up with machine importer to translate broken English manuals to readable English and Montreal French.

I know I have it in my library, but I can't find it.
