Memory is definitely going

LonelyDad ๐Ÿšซ

I want to reread a story, but can't recall enough to find it again. The part that sticks in my mind is the mc is a high school guy, and when he is in bio lab some nut case sets off a firecracker 'to free the frogs!' who are already dead and preserved. Ring any bells?

The firework in question is an M40 - I remember the scene, now to remember the story. She sets the firework off in a large beaker on a bench to the side. He helps to treat the injured.

A search by the SoL search engine on content with lab and firework gives a hit on Stupid Boy Freshman year Part 2, but not what chapter - that may be it because I read the scene you want I read that, but I'm still looking. It['s the only hit in the list I recognise the title of.

Found it, got the name wrong it's an M80 in Human Phoenix - I knew I'd recognise the title when I saw it in the search list - found it with just Firework

M80

Wasn't that the one responsible for many destroyed toilets and sewer lines?

Thanks. Sometimes brevity pays off. I was using a whole string of search words, and was getting several hundred hits back, which I was just not up to sorting through. I did successfully keep from rereading the whole story again, which is what usually happens when I want to reread just a scene from one of my favorites. So I've got that going for me.

We never had one of that name down here, but from what I've read about them in the USA, you're probably right. They're unlawful in most staes in the USA now.

Common knowledge equated one with a quarter stick of dynamite. Large fireworks like that are illegal here, but my cousins used to run up to the next state over where they were legal and get a bunch for our Fourth of July celebrations.
Most of you probably don't know what a steel post driver is, but it is basically a heavy steel tube about four feet long with one end sealed. It is placed upside down over a steel fence post and slid up and down to drive the post into the ground. What they would do is find some corn cobs or pieces of tree branch that would just easily fit into the tube. They put about six inches of water in the bottom of the tube to protect the end cap. Then one would hold and aim the tube, and another would drop in a lit M80 then one of the missiles (corn cob, etc.) The challenge was to see if they could get the missile over the barn roof.

How many holes in the barn?

How many holes in the barn?

All of them.

@LonelyDad

How many holes in the barn?

They never said, but I doubt there were any. When you add up the distance away from the barn to get the correct angle, the leakage around the missile, and the forty or so foot height of the barn, not a lot of energy left to do damage.
