Long time ago there (ON SOL) was story about accidental time traveler who ended on south USA (around Mississippi), there acquired plantation and was preparing to travel to Oregon with slaves to free them - before Civil war broke.
Unfortunately that's all I remember about it.

From memory it was by h20wader. They still have an account here but there are only a couple of short stories, and one longer one, from earlier this year.
The last time I saw the story was just before he pulled it. I think he mentioned at the time in his blog on sol that he was going to try and get it published. I have no idea if he succeeded or not.
