The way I remember the story is the MC is a trained Warrior and is traveling on a boat with his aunt and cousin when it attacked by Pirates. Somehow he ends up working with the Pirates and his aunt and cousin become his slaves.

btw, Sea King is the first of three stories in a series. It took me a while to get past the cover-blurb on the second one (Shasta's tale) but it was very much worth it.
