There's a story (might not be on SOL) about a stuck-up princess-type girl in college (might be Jewish) who falls in love with a genius. 80+ short chapters, if I recall correctly. He's extremely smart, ends up getting his PhD in the amount of time it usually takes just to graduate undergrad.

Also, I feel like the author's name is right on the tip of my tongue: Peter Michaelson? Peter Samuelson? Peter Michaels? Peter Samuels? Philip something? ...haha this is driving me crazy.
