I'm looking for a lost story .
Description: a writer leaving town for a reprieve disrupts a robbery and inadvertently saved the governors wife in the process. He suffers a gunshot wound to the head which gave him amnesia as a result.
Any help would be appreciated.

The way I remember it he was leaving town and going to a cabin he'd rented trying to find inspiration for his next novel. Nobody knew of his plans and he reserved his cabin under a false name. He hit someone with his car who happened to be be in the process of kidnapping the governors wife, their were two bad guys and he is shot a glancing blow to the head which gives him amnesia amnesia. As he nears his destination he loses control of his vehicle and it plunges into a river. He is found by woman cares for him. Meanwhile he is being searched for as a lost hero and the governors wife demands he be found so she could thank him.

Kris just wanted to get to a quiet place so he could write his next book. He didn't know getting there would involve events that would make him the object of a manhunt led by the governor's wife, steal his memories and bring him together with the woman he'd been looking for all his life.

That was the story I thought of. I even remembered Lubrican as the author. But the title didn't jump out at me :-(
