Protagonist is a high-school guy who lives alone -- his mom died a couple years ago and his (step-?)father lives elsewhere. When the story opens, he has acquired a magic lamp and summoned a genie. But she's an scary, hateful genie -- a teenage girl named something like Alyssandra. Her experience with humans, both as a genie and as a human before that, have been awful and extreme, so she hates people. She can't hurt him physically, but
waking up to her playing with knives on the bed next to him is more or less normal.
He has avoided making any wishes because it's clear that she will do her best to use the wishes to screw him over. He really wants to use a wish to retroactively save his mother, but she tells him that's impossible.
IIRC, there's something going on with a neighbor woman whose house is burgled, and interfering with the burglar. And maybe another neighbor with some interaction. And I think there may be another genie involved.
In the end, he makes his wishes. The first two are for his benefit, but are modest, generic, and as hard to twist against him as he can figure. One is to be healthy, and it results in him craving exercise and salads. I don't recall what the second one was. The third, though, is for the genie to be reborn as a human and to have a good, happy human life to a normal human lifespan.
This one isn't new -- I probably read it between 2010 and 2020. I don't recall if it was here or not.
