He changed his pen name from Irish Writer to James MacDonald. He wrote, I think three sequels, to Reluctant Sir's original story
The author pretty much tied things off with a bow at the end of Magic 301. I'm sure there are ways he could resurrect it if he really wants to - but it'd be awkward.
I did read those two in the end, but there were a large number of problems with 201 which made it borderline unreadable for me.
- misspellings, with words and with names (both names introduced in Magic 101 and those introduced later).
- gaping plot holes, frequently because the author had missed something in 101.
- characters behaving totally differently compared to the 101 originals.
301 was better, although IR/JM's attempt to get out of the mess he created by changing Cécile Henrard's gender in 201 created another problem.
I created a document listing errors in 201 and it is roughly 300 lines long, that includes a few lines at the start with all of the variations of the various names he came up with.
He used to be a programmer. In my experience, bad things tend to happen if you use multiple different versions of a variable's name. Either the compiler complains (good) or it assumes a misspelled name is a different variable (not so good).
