Having your muse desert you is unfortunate… especially with your excellent works… perhaps you can write a parallel side story on Neptune development or a historical one that expands on the fight against Boston reservoir "undrowned" using characters such as the hardware store owner and the Colonel…

John Ringo wrote himself into a corner on at least one of his series and hasn't done anything with those for over twenty years (really? isfdb . . . 2009 . . .2007 ) So almost twenty years. It happens.

It happened to https://storiesonline.net/a/Mack_the_Knife with his story "Murder Isle" close to 20 years ago. He resurfaced 12 years ago with a couple of short stories but then vanished altogether.
