A former Space Marine buys old ship, makes a lot of money, buys bigger ship. Begins to rescue women. Learns his father is alien.
Any idea who wrote it or the title? Thanks.

Three Square Meals by Tefler. On a subscription site.
What was posted on SOL is still available.

My understanding is that he was getting too close to the wrong side of the rule about keeping his SOL posts closely current with other sites. Got a bit shirty about being told off.
Then his patreon posting schedule has been getting less and less reliable.
It is/was an entertaining story but really started to go off the boil
Let's call it what it isβ¦..Tefler is a crook.
Patreon has a feature that allows writers to charge subscribers ahead of time for chapters. The product people are charged for is called a "placeholder". Tefler has twice been sanctioned for taking money and not producing chapters.
Currently, he is TWENTY chapters behind. Yes. He's charged subscribers for twenty chapters that he has not produced. At one point, he had nearly 8000 subscribers and they paid between $1 and in some cases $50 per chapter. Going with the low number, that's $8000/chapter and he charges for around 2 placeholders per month.
He's taken in a quarter of a million dollars for no product.
He's used every excuse under the sun as to why he's swindling people.
Last time I looked, he's lost 2500-3000 subscribers and they have moved on, but most are so wrapped up in the sink cost fallacy and addicted to his space opera that they will continue emptying their pockets and keep his ship from sinking completely.
There is a FREE way to read every letter of every word that Tefler has written.
Stopped reading the story here when I felt it was getting too repetitive, and I wasn't going to pay for that privilege... (Considering that I'm not the most patient person in the world, that could have been part of the problem, too...)
Alurad de Valer seems to be following the same path. Nothing in over a month on Patreon, with no end in sight. In his case, it may be due to old age/infirmity.
What do you mean? The AuD story is actively still being written even though you don't mention a story title by name.
*** edit: I think I understand...Hey if you read it here its Free right? He's posting in Patreon instead..sorry if that falls below your expectations. ***
Yeah he's still posting, just not as often as you like on this web site. and for the record he posted three times in September and once in October on the website with the name that starts with 'P'. I mean why else would you complain about an author on a website in a forum post that is also unrelated to the Topic.
On that other site, one pays by the month - in essence, acting as a patron. The chapters that appear on SoL actually were authored months ago - perhaps up to a year ago - SoL lags the other site by a considerable margin.
My point was that one pays at the other site for the privilege of seeing chapters a lot earlier than they appear here. However, if, for example, one is paying $5 per month to see new chapters that are coming out, say, about three times a month on average, and the book consists of 60 chapters, then the patron winds up paying $100 for the privilege of seeing that book in advance. However, if the chapters suddenly stop, or slow considerably, the price of the book rises, and eventually reaches wholly unacceptable levels. In this case, production definitely has slowed.
