Hi, I'm looking for a story where the MC has a Moor? Slave/companion who makes spherical exploding charges that they throw or fire at other ships to defend themselves. I seem to remember something about islands or peninsula"s they take over or purchase, Mediterranean or African coast? Sorry, the description is a bit random. Thank you in advance.
That story is set (mostly) in Arizona. One of the follow-up stories has wooden sailing ships but I think they have advanced to cannon by then (and I don't think they have any seabound enemies to use the cannon on).

Some of the details don't match very well but some parts do (Sea King more than Shasta's Tale). All of colt45's stories are premier-only nowadays. The objects they throw at another ship are expensive bottles of spirits which have been set alight.

Isekai. Big Bad is Irish or English, I can't recall which. IIRC he makes blackpowder and ceramic grenades. Story is set on an island. No Moors.
in "The Earl's Man", by Fantasy Lover, the 13th century MC explores Africa and gets slaves from all over. One of his trading partners brings him in contact with a Moorish captain who trades in the far east . The MC gets slaves from China who can make gunpowder, which he uses in grenades and eventually makes cannon. He gets slaves from India and Japan to make advances steel for swords.

There was another story about rivaling sailing companies. The father has disappeared and the son took over. The son had a Moorish teacher whi made glass orbs filled with gunpowder to set the enemies ships on fire by using a crossbow to shoot ships.
That sounds like Voyage ofvthe Hawk by The Blind Man. It could be what OP is looking for.
