Story Searches

ian181 🚫

If anybody knows and has the time to lay out a step by step instructions on how to use google to find stories on SOL using any or all words so even a computer ill-literate like me can follow.I will be very thankful and will print it out and nail it to my wall

Lazeez Jiddan (Webmaster)

@ian181

It's simple:

For 'any word search':
site:storiesonline.net fighter jet crashed

for phrase search:
site:storiesonline.net "fighter jet crash"

However, keep in mind that Google doesn't see most of what's on SOL. For single part stories, google gets the first 5000 characters of a story. For multi-part stories google see 1 or 5% of chapters.

So, google search is severely limited for storiesonline (and all the sites using the same engine (finestories.com and scifistories.com). So using google you're unlikely to find anything that doesn't fall at the beginning of the story you're looking for.

Search operators

You can use search operators and other punctuation to get more specific search results. Except for the examples below, Google Search usually ignores punctuation.

You can also use https://www.google.com/advanced_search

Further to Lazeez' reply you can put a list of possible words then a space and then type site:storiesonline.net

I personally find it easier to put the words being searched for before the site.

Lazeez (correctly) put inverted commas round the phrase being searched for but you can simply use odd words or names - could be more successful as you are less likely to remember a phrase

The concept works anywhere using Google
