I thought it was Hell Hounds by Ernest Bywater, which has an invasion from Mexico, but I am looking for a similar story which contains the following -
Invasion from Mexico, National Guard units do much of the fighting, at one point they are warned of Friendlies from another state joining the fight.
Sadly that is the only scene I can remember :(

I think one of the Banzai Ben stories has a scene like that.I remember an attack from Mexico,a bar named Bob's and a drinking bear.I could be confusing that with drinking Dos Equis,my friend Bob and a bear of a hangover.

Was a regular army fight or not?
I ask, because my shot at a zombie apocalypse was based on the zombies coming from Mexico and the fighting was mostly done by the National Guard - but it was more focused on the HQ people and their decisions, and not the actual fighting.

I seem to recall it was National Guard units, a ground attack, and possibly National Guard Warthogs from a neighboring state. Details kinda hazy though!

Semi-Off Topic: A few years ago my old computer died and I lost my password to Gina's site. My old log-on comes up with an expired password message and I've lost my old e-mail address to a hacker. I tried to re-register this afternoon but the registration page keeps coming up blank. The site had several stories I've found nowhere else and would really like to re-read. Help!

The Tall Short maybe, by Gina Marie Wylie?
I think you meant Rock Fall, PA, invasion from Mexico, A10's taking out (at least the local) invaders, huge snowstorms, protagonists sheltering in a mine converted to shelter. Tall Short is PA but no invasion from Mexico, just local militias based on NG/military units. Neither of these stories (AFAIR) fit the NG/friendlies criterion.
