I'm reading "American Teen" and have this vague remembrance of another story where the MC finds out that he has extremely rich Grandparents.
I can't remember if the revelation comes via a death in the family or the reaching of a given age but, I think, the MC is flown to meet them. Grandparents have a penthouse but, if I'm remembering correctly, MC is housed elsewhere and discovers that it is being bugged, though not by the Grandparents.
Any suggestions?
This sounds familiar, but I can't remember the title. If it's the same story I'm thinking of, the grandparents are rich and have setup a trust for the daughter (MC's mother), and grandchild (MC), but the MC's mother isn't really in contact with her parents and haven't touched the trust. I think it comes at the MC's 18th birthday when he receives a letter informing him of the trust. The lawyers (or finance people, I can't remember) are skimming from the trust and he ends up getting a lot of them arrested.
If this is the same story (and not a mashup of a few other stories), I hope the additional details help somebody else find it.
