@bezerk77

There is a part of the story line in the "Wilco" series of books (30 of them) by Geoff Wolak that has this in one of them - he's a Dictator in an African country. They are not on here but they can be purchased on the bezosminimart site.

There's an 1970s dead tree story, "Golden Gate" by Alistair MacLean, with elements of this. IIRC, the president is rescued, though.

Golden Gate was set in California, which IS in America.

The only story I can think of that has something like this is Clay Flesh 2 by Ivan the Terror. It's not on this site.

In that story, President Daniels essentially takes over the federal government and has all of congress arrested. Eventually the President's motorcade is stopped on a bridge by an army but he is killed, not captured.

IIRC while Daniels was trapped in his limo on the Arlington Memorial Bridge, he was killed (shot) by his limo driver, not anyone from the opposing forces ... they wanted him alive ...

Am I right in thinking Ivan the Terror used to be on this site, so presumably that story was also here. There have been Forum threads about him but they may have been deleted.

@Dinsdale

I don't think he was ever on this site. I originally found his work elsewhere, but that site is no longer available, but I have previously found his page on the Wayback machine.

https://storiesonline.net/d/s4/t3944/ivan-the-terror is (obviously) all about him, and you appear to be correct, he was never on this site.
