... and it turns out the nano/robots weren't fully on board but are slaves(?) and one of the surviving women can talk with them, resulting in a counter attack. I seem to recall this one was from a long while back, but my seach-foo is failing.

This must surely be cmsix, especially if there's a big-titted redhead involved. Not sure of the title though.
Good luck,
AJ
CMSix's - Nanovirus. Premier author, story is listed as "Incomplete and inactive" as well, though I seem to remember reading it way back when and it was finished...Iirc he was re-writing most of his stories so I guess he didn't get this one completed as well
https://storiesonline.net/s/54126/nanovirus
The original story was 45 Chapters and an Epilog - which I have as html files.
In the re-write he seems to have split the 45 Chapters up into 99 Chapters with not a lot added to the story and "to be continued" at the end.
cmsix's original Nanoverse story was Red and Victor, 10 chapters. Then NanoVirus 99 chapters, then My Mom's Fuzzy Heart 5 chapters, then I Feel Lucky 82 chapters, and finally John and Argent 201 chapters. Red and Victor and Fuzzy Heart are complete, but the other 3 were left hanging. John and Argen don't have much connection with the other 4. He was known for just stopping when he ran out of ideas on a story and writing somewhere else. They won't be finished, since Chessley Grogan passed away in 2019
Although it is listed as incomplete it ends at what I thought was a clean point in the story. The last paragraph opens up the possibility of a whole new phase of the story but could also just be leaving it to your imagination. But since he has passed on that is all it will ever be.
When he posted the revised version, he stated that it was complete, however he seems to have left it listed as 'to be continued'.
