I cannot remember too much about this story but the mc grows up in a household where his mum is not affectionate and his stepfather is a bully. His grandfather makes up for it and almost all the good times he has invole his grandfather.
The part I can remember well is virtually the end of the story where the mc is a successful American Footballer and flies on a chartered jet to visit his grandfather who has been put in a home by the mc's mother and is so afraid of her that he is reluctant to agree to go for a few weeks on a visit to the mc's home and to meet his wife. In the end after the mc stands up to his mother and stepfather and guarantees the home's fees the grandfather does take the holiday with the mc.
