This is NOT "Recluse and Ghost" by Dual Writer. MC is a guy (possibly a vet) who buys a farm someplace in Appalachia or the Ozarks. There is one or more incidents of rednecks chasing some girl, possibly off a cliff. I think there is a trained dog and maybe some ex-military friends.
Longish story I believe.
