The story starts in Massachusetts where the main character is a prize fighter with a sad loss of his little girl from a horse cart accident while he was celebrating another fight win. He drifts south the New York City where he has another fight then picks up when he is with a Wild West show. He has an occasional lover and finds out she is a thief. Next he lands in California ( maybe San Francisco) and is hired to straighten out the police squad that deals with China town. There he meets a married lady to an older man and manages his business dealings. She is targeted by fighting priests and they end up together at a farm. I'm probably leaving out some other pointers such a twins who help him that are obviously not twins and a couple of mismatched people that make spiced condiments. A boxing match that setup a young patrolman to lose that he saves in the ring and beats the other fighter. Any help would be appreciated.
