Takes place in UK. Scientists send minds of agent and one scientist back to pre-Saxon UK. Scientist goes rogue and tries to change history. Poisons Scotti well with botulism. Agent works to counter him and eventually succeeds but is stuck in long term coma in here and now while he lives his life out in the past. Arthur, Merlin, Morgan le Fey, etc. I think I read it here.
