Late teen early 20's guy, think his father has passed and left him a huge fortune. He lives in an apartment building, has a lot of friends who come with him..
Meeting his father's family he realises they are a group/ society (all rich) who are thruples or couples with a "third".
Used to think it was a Jay Cantrell story but it's not.
Does it ring any bells for people?
Thruples, that's a rare word, no occurences..
Thriple is almost as rare but is used in one story exactly:

Actually, the correct word is triad, and it is used both in the poly community and in academia, which is fairly rare.
Throuple has become popular in recent years among younger people who are trying out the lifestyle and in social media. It's more of a buzzword than an accepted word on a larger scale.
The one possible advantage of throuple is that it is used exclusively for relationships in which all three people are romantically or sexually entangled. Triad can be used generally for any relationship with three people, including familial and social groups.

His mother and the billionaire she had an affair with are dead, but his mother's husband, the man who raised him and is legally the MC's father is still alive.
ah ok thanks! After reading the synopsis I remember I started to read it before then stopped.
Another story along the same lines, but definitely not the one you're looking for, is The Occasional Mind Reader by Cold Creek. That includes some ESP, but the MC does wind up in a poly relationship shortly after suddenly becoming ridiculously wealthy.
