Rules of life? Rules to live by?

ticklemestalin 🚫

There's a story I read some time ago that has been bugging me lately and I can't find it. It's a coming of age story about a boy who has trouble relating to others. He sets about researching and developing rules to live by, and I think that's what the title talks about. In his quest to figure out himself and the world, he comes up with a recipe for his own pizza sauce, works for a construction company to raise money, and finally opens a family friendly pizza restaurant.

I want to say it's been about 10 years since I read it, and it wasn't new then. The guy I would swear recommended it to me has no memory of it. I have no idea where I read it.

Does this ring a bell for anyone else?

Thank you both, that was fast work! I was worried I'd go to the old folks home still wracking my brain, and you knocked it out in under 15 minutes.

It's not only one of the top stories on the website but one of the ones regularly pointed to as an example that adult amateur fiction can surpass most published stuff for authenticity of emotions.

Trying to identify Millionaire Next Door is like saying "I'm trying to remember the name of a movie. There's this funny gold guy and lots of space stuff blowing up. Has anyone heard of it?"

Its a bit easier to identify Millionaire Next Door story than remembering which Bond film has space stuff blowing up - GoldFinger or GoldenEye or possibly the Man with the Golden Gun…. Come to think of it, the second Austin Powers film might qualify too… I think I need to practice my Trivia Pursuit and pub crawl skills a bit. :-)

I think Dicrostonyx was referring to C-3PO.
I'm a big SF fan but not Star Wars and even I knew that.

Good point.. we have another film that might meet the criteria. :-)
