I just read A blossom fell. I thought I was going to reread a story I read years ago, but it is not the same.

The story I read before had the girl and boy on a school bus, but it was just the one trip.

The bus breaks down in the winter and the girl gets cold. The boy just got a large winter coat and wraps the girl in it with him so both stay warm. Very short story I thought was called a blossom fell, but is not.

Just wanted to add that in the story am looking for, it is happens on the bus. No deaths, no sex, no ever lasting romance/story. Just two young teens making the best of a large coat to keep warm together for a few hours on a cold/freezing bus.

Does anyone remember this story.

I think these stories are probably "near misses" but they are all I can come up with now.

The boys name was Ed, also part of the title, I think. The girl came from a very strict oddball religion. Ed lives by himself in a large house. He is a senior in high school. His father's visits are few and far between. She moves in and begins cleaning up the mess.

You are referring to the incomplete "The Watching Trilogy" by Alan Mathews. It's a 1995 Story from usenet.

But there is sex, death and ever lasting romance in that one.

I find the original is far better than the toned down 2001 rewrite where the character actions stop making sense.
