The story is narrated by an Army sniper. He meets a shy, rookie female soldier who he thinks she's too delicate for the Army. Her convoy is ambushed and with the help of the narrator she transforms into a true soldier, manning a machine gun and saving the convoy. In the end, he sees her watching new arrival troops, clad with a scarf around her neck and the attitude of a veteran.
It's a great story. Hope Todd and the Mrs get a chance to share more of their great tales.

That makes me want to set up a pen-name of 'Who' and post a rubbish story under it. Then someone could post "Who's writing sucks" and it would be grammatically correct :-)
Or perhaps I could post an incomplete story titled 'Sucks'.

My former employer had the spell- and grammar-checker set to autocorrect by default. It was a constant battle as it "corrected" my spelling of words that weren't in its very limited library and had the grammar checker changing sentences to entirely different meanings. I don't know how many reports ended up as gibberish.

My problem with me replying is my "inner voice" supplies the correct tone for the occasion (humorous snarky), but the text box doesn't come with a telepathy function. And I swear that what is on the screen isn't what I read it to be just before I hit send.
No apologies are needed. I believe I read your reply correctly and was not offended. I wasn't trying to poke fun at any particular author, just the challenge of invalid questions.
Whitesabretooth, Vanessa Ravencroft, KaHmnd and a few others (especially Vanessa) are good to excellent storytellers that need help with the writing part. Since I enjoy reading them I have learned to just twitch and read on. The crack about English is I read on Reddit and it seems that half the posts say that they are not a native English speaker just before they post something that blows my best out of the water both technically and with the content. It would depress me but I have lost my aspirations writing years ago (OK it was decades)

It's not uncommon that non-native English speakers write technically better. The main reason is that they didn't have a chance to develop slang or regional wording and more diligently follow the rules they learned because that's what they know. They just didn't develop bad habits concerning the language. The problem many (not all) non-native speakers have is that they have a smaller vocabulary set so are less likely to find a specific word that would describe a situation better.
