I'm looking for a story about a soldier in Vietnam who wanders into an ancient temple and finds an amulet holding the spirits of hundreds of alien beings. The aliens tell him he was chosen to find the amulet (guided by a light that only he could see) because he was considered to be the best leader for an up-coming battle between rival factions of aliens. When he gets home, he finds that his family has moved and forgotten him (he's told this is for his own protection) and he is being supported by money diverted from evil purposes.
