Lost Sci-fi Movie

dougb ๐Ÿšซ

OK, I know this post is for lost stories here but this is a smart crowd and I thought perhaps you can help me. I remember as a teenager seeing a "B" Sci-fi movie made somewhere between 1965 and 1970. The plot involved scientists discovering a planet exactly opposite the Earth and on the same orbit. An Astronaut was sent on a 1 year round trip mission to the planet to check it out, however, he returns after only 6 months. The Astronaut claims he is on the mystery planet and the scientists all say he is wrong. This is Earth. Soon the Astronaut starts noticing strange things. His wife driving on the wrong side of the road. A light switch that should have been on his left is now on the right and other weird things. The scene I remember best is the Astronaut is being examined and someone brings in a large poster board with detailed writing on it. The writing does not make sense till they hold up a mirror and the Astronaut can now read it. Everything is backwards! It almost sounds like a "Twilight Zone" but I swear it was a movie. Can't remember the name or anyone who starred in it. Does anyone out there remember this one?

Thank you both for your response. I can sleep tonight!

I believe one of the UK terrestrial channels that shows a lot of old sci-fi films recently aired it as 'Journey to the Far Side of the Sun'.

I have the movie on DVD in a collection called Classic SciFi. There are 50 dvd's with movies on both sides of the disks totaling 450 movies from the 30's, 40', 50's, 60's, and 70's.

I also have it in a 20 disk set called Late Night at the Drive-In.

So at one time it was out there.

Journey to the Far Side of the Sun

I thought I had seen this movie, but after reading its Wikipedia entry it's not the movie I remember. I remember a very similar movie, but the difference was that this counter-Earth had a global dictatorship: "The Perfect Order". The Earth astronaut finds some type of resistance movement that tries to stowaway him into an Apollo-like rocket to send him back to Earth, but the police discovers the plot. He escapes but his allies are killed.

In the end, he hitchhikes his way out of the city and when looking at the night sky, he sees two moons. He tells the truck driver that he had never seen the moons like that.

Edit: Just found it:

Classic SciFi

That actually sounds like a pretty good tv pilot. I'd watch it, although, it does sound a bit like a "Land of the Giants" type thing. I see it was a Bing Crosby Production, but it sounds like an Irwin Allen

@dougb

John Norman's Gor novels used a Counter Earth premise. A couple of film adaptations were made.

I tossed the one book I tried to read into the fire. It shared that 'honor' with De Sade.
