What I remember: kid finds rare book at library that describes how to cast spells by drawing symbols on the ground. Not knowing any better, he uses his laptop to cast the "perfect" version of these spells--something the hidden cult of magic users have been trying to do for centuries.

I swear it was called the "Prefect Grimoire" or "Master's Grimoire" but I can't find a reference to either, even broken links.

Slightly off topic but if you like that sort of thing check out "Everything's Eventual" by Stephen King. It's the title cut of a collection of (IMHO) some of his best shorts.
