The main thing that I remember is the MC is in the army maybe cavalry. He goes to the area where the fighting is and when he gets there the camp followers have a area set up to sell things. He meets a man that sells hem maps that show the surrounding area and the area of their enemy.
There is also something about him making a drink the heals wounds or sickness.
