I read this story, I guess, five or maybe ten years ago. In it, for some reason, the male main character takes tests to see where he should be placed in school. I don't remember why. Maybe he had just moved to the area. Or maybe he was not doing well in school. Somebody (school doctor) decided he had attention deficit disorder and prescribed drugs, which themselves addled his brain. In any event, he was re-tested, which showed that he should be placed in a higher grade, that he did not have ADD and did not need drugs. I'm guessing he was promoted and probably lived happily ever after or something
