Forum: Lost Stories

I have found I lost a story I would really like to buy/re-read.

The story starts with an orphan boy who is picked up and taken to a town which is different.

The boy has tests taken and then is operated on, which gives him special powers.

It goes on like this for awhile, and he is joined by other people with powers, until finally he/they discover the man in charge is friendly and hiding from the world.

That's about it for my memory (feeble as it is).

Can anyone help? It was on this website and I would be glad to pay for a copy.

Dark Energy by Fick Suck? That's the only one I've read that might match, but I never finished it and there may be others.
