the Meredith Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton. ISFDB entry here. She hasn't written a new one in about a decade and I stopped reading her other series about then - the page count grew, the story suffered.
Good Hunting, limab
thanks, I had been deep into both her series, but CRS was hitting hard last night, your right it was almost like she couldn't find a good stopping place
again thanks
Jim
Assassin's apprentice, by Robin Hobb. One of my favorite series of books are, but I personally hate the ending.

I read the first book and stopped, too dark for me.
War for the Oaks has a brief mention of redcaps.
David Wolverton writing as David Farland was that for me, I read the first book of The Runelords and couldn't continue. Oddly enough Assassins Apprentice was dark but it didn't bother me.
