Forum: Lost Stories

So, I saw this story: https://news.microsoft.com/features/separated-by-an-ocean-two-people-connect-through-gaming-similar-passions-and-a-rare-disease/

and it made me remember a story from long before I found SOL. E-book, maybe, but might have even been dead tree. The points I remember are:

* fireman (maybe police), disabled in line of duty, middle-aged, wife or girlfriend left him after disability
* diabetic female, much younger, I think also burned in love
* met in MMORPG and fell in love, started trading information - he discovers she is not really taking care of herself with her condition, rushes to (Florida?) and saves her. She's extremely underweight. He's a paraplegic as I recall. Still in love; all ends well.

Anyone recognize?

Good Hunting, limab

I have seen that plot point in another story, Wes Boyd's "Canyon Fires" (Chapter 22 - they were minor characters in that story).
He had several stories posted to SOL or Finestories but that was not one of them. It was something of a weird story, several characters "known" to be non-religious suddenly "came out" at once.

Not the same story, but 'Gamer Goddess' on the other site is also a somewhat similar setting
