Featured Story Feature

John D. Rodburn ๐Ÿšซ

It seems our host has added a new feature.

On the home page the new box shows Eric Olafson volume 1 available for free.

Is it a standalone story? as the rest requires a premier membership to read.

zitqhile ๐Ÿšซ

@John D. Rodburn

It is limited time for two more days. Might be a new feature to get more premium members if they like the story.

John D. Rodburn ๐Ÿšซ

@zitqhile

It's not the time limit. I can download the whole thing and read offline, it's simple enough.

The question was is it standalone or cannot be read on its own and I must read the other 9 volumes to get the story?

Some books that are part of a series can be standalone.

Basically, should I bother with this one book or am I going to be frustrated?

Can you only eat one chip? It seems to be the first book in the series so it will depend if it is that good you want to read the rest of the series.

SOL's prices to seem reasonable, since a lot of good authors are premium, so a month should get enough to make it worth while.

If you take the yearly membership, $67.99(I've spent more than that taking my wife out to dinner), you are only paying $5.66 per month to support the website. That is cheap for the entertainment value of all the stories. Buck up and support SoL for all the time you spend here.

I suspect you might be correct since that box is not visible when signed on using a premium account.

Can wait to see if the web site master (Lazeeze?) replies to this question or contact them directly. Most of us are just readers like yourself.

Laz won't know what is in a story. How is he to know if it is connected?

@jimq2

Laz might know how long the series will be continued to have free viewing. The second book is up now, so maybe the whole series or just a taste of a few books.

The whole series. One week per book.

So nobody here can answer the question?

I haven't read the stories so I can't. But I did read the Foreword in Volume 2.

I don't know if the way the Volume 1 story ends makes it a standalone story, that is, has a satisfying ending, but based on the Foreword in the Volume 2 story I think Volume 1 will need to be read for it to make sense. So my guess is the Volumes are like the novels in "The Lord of the Rings" where each is not a standalone.

But I'm guessing since I didn't read any of them.

@Switch Blayde

It has been many years since I last read that story, so I had to re-read the last chapter.

I feel it could be read as a stand-alone story - granted, it was written as book 1 of a series.

If reading it as a stand-alone, I would suggest skipping the prequel.

If spelling and grammar errors bother you, I would suggest giving it a pass.

Thank you.

Alright, so go here: https://storiesonline.net/series/1548/erica-olafson and then look at the descriptions... In them they list the years. Never read them, But keep it simple.... Do a little research as it appears you have upgraded access. If you need us to spoon feed you; maybe ask the question differently

It looks like all of Vanessa Ravencroft's works are premier now.

They've been that way for a long time.

If this was supposed to be a lure to have people go for a paid subscription, they really failed

It's not.
