I am rereading Refusenik - Human Phoenix story for the 4th time in chapter 19 when Mr Piotrowski died, Scott finds him and after deciding that he can't bring him back he breaks down and basically goes into a catatonic state until all the people start showing up. So my question is how did they know they needed to come out there to help Scott, Who called the Sheriff if Scott is the only one there besides Jobe.? Since we know that both Scott and Jobe are different due to the Aliens did Jobe use his powers to somehow call 911?

Lots of questions and no way to ask Refusenik for any answers

So I come here to see if any of you fine people have any clue as to how this might have happened.

P.S. I think this story deserves a 3rd book to find out how things turned out for Scott after marrying Janie and college if he ever builds his home on the old Lewis property he bought.

I just reread that portion. Jobe went out and then came back. It seems that he used his beast to human telepathy to summon assistance.

If you're starting to nitpick one of the best stories on SOL, perhaps you shouldn't read it a fifth time. Familiarity breeds contempt.

Just reading the title of the question brought back memories of the TV show Lassie.

The dog just barked in the classic ... --- ... pattern to indicate a request for help.

"Yip! Yip! Yip! Woof! Woof! Woof! Yip! Yip! Yip!"

"What's that, pooch? Your owner's boat has struck a submerged obstacle and is sinking?"

"Arf! No idiot! Arf!"

"Your owner just needs help?"

"Arf!"
