Read One Night in Xanadu by Chloe Tzang.
Magical Wordcraft.

A good idea to include a link when recommending a story...and putting it in "Story Recommendations" :D
Sadly for me the synopsis gives me no idea what the story is about...other than "historical"

pj's review didn't say either. I read the first chapter just to find out. It's very wordy. Sorry, but it's very different to Rachel Ross's hard-hitting style.
The first chapter wasn't awful, although rather repetitious and with an ending I found flat and jarring.

I have read and liked some of hers on another site. And yes, wordy she is, to a bit extremes sometimes, and I think that threw me off the particular piece discussed here too. Mentioning her other works, over there also is a longish piece about US second civil war published under another name; she nevertheless advertised on the forums, and it's recognizably hers. She's very active (or at least used to be, haven't looked for a while) in authors hangout and politics sections over there. The character she presented there was quite peculiar. That shouldn't reflect on her prose, especially erotica, and even that particular political piece, it's one case in that particular subgenre I have actually recommended to people without any asterisk, even though she's seemingly... Asian American ER nurse chick who hangs out with guns loving MAGA guys, but also staunchly supports Ukraine, somehow especially Azov? Also upon a possible personal/family connection, and it was before that become a limited contradiction because of the cult pivot.
