Do we get tired of news?

PotomacBob ๐Ÿšซ

For most of the last couple of years, whenever I listened to or watched a newscast, it was almost all about COVID. Then, a month or two ago, it switched to being almost all about Russia invading Ukraine. There was a time when it was almost all about immigrants.
I've had several broadcasters tell me that there are companies whose sole job is to measure the listening/watching audiences for broadcasts - and that whatever people are listening/watching is what guides them. In other words, the more we listen/watch stories about ITEM A, the more of ITEM A stories they will broadcast.
Does all of that, taken together, mean that we the people get caught up in a particular story and can't get though of it, then after a while we get tired of it and start being consumers of different news? We get tired of the news and stop watching, so they start showing us something different that maybe we will watch?
As far as I know, there is no similar measuring technique for newspapers. We do not know how many people read a particular story.

I very seldom watch the news as I got tired of all the lies and innuendo...

TV and newspapers long ago gave up trying to report actual news, it's mostly propaganda now.

Check reuters.com or aljazeera.com, I'll bet you see some news you haven't heard on TV or read in the papers.

If you're seeking realism on TV, watch those ghost-hunter guys - when a moth flies by and they
scream like little girls, they really do scream like little girls.

Run a computer program to eliminate all hyperbole, propaganda, lies, and innuendo - and you'll be left with only the traffic report.

No, even the traffic report is mostly hyperbole. Maybe the police blotter will be left.

By definition, journalism and the news they are susposed to report are dead.
Now it's all propaganda, either corporate or government.

Actual news is now gathered by individuals not by 'reporters' AKA journalist.

So there's no such thing as COVID. And Russia did NOT invade Ukraine. There are no immigrants at the U.S. borders. It's all lies.

I wasn't referring to specific stories, but rather pointing out that the entire idea of "objective" journalism was a lie from it's inception.

That's what the US media said for the first few months of it's existence while Trump was saying there was a virus to be concerned about while Pelosi and the rest of the Democrat Elite were saying he was lying.

There's also the years of the US media reports on the Trump - Russia Collusion story.

There's also the decades of the US media not mentioning the problems with the Ukraine government and the people in the DonBas region who Russia have been supporting.

That's just for starters.

I recall Pelosi standing in Chinatown San Francisco inviting people to come on out and have a good time after Trump warned of the virus.
Orange man said it, so it couldn't possibly be true.

Yep.

Here's something that didn't show up until a few hours ago. Puerto Rico has had an Island wide power outage that started two days ago. Fox, NYP, NPR, and Reuters were the first to report it.
Disturbingly, there were calls from the more liberal bent outlets to use this to force a move to green energy???
Fuck the people of Puerto Rico, you can wait until you go green.

Since you don't believe news reports, how did you happen to know that Pelosi did that? You visited San Francisco personally?

I've been to San Francisco many times. I've stood exactly in the spot the cameras recorded her in. I don't need their commentary and bullshit to know what she said, or where she was. The camera recorded it all.

So there's no such thing as COVID.

I actually got out of the rehab hospital after my back surgery about two days before the country started closing because the first deaths happened in the Seattle area. The staff was not yet getting suited up in protective gear. I consider myself lucky for not only surviving a third back surgery but getting my arms and hands working again.

The first three weeks in the hospital were rough as I could feel and move my fingers individually but I still did not have any strength in either. But about the fourth week, the light was turned on and I got about 90% strength literally overnight. Woke up one morning and I could grab and lift the breakfast tray. I didn't even realize it until the nurse helper came in to collect the tray and I handed it to her. She pointed it out and I looked at my hand with my mouth wide open. I could even use my arms to push myself up off the bed and onto the wheelchair. The day before we needed a huge machine like a swing that stood me up off the bed and then it spun me around to sit on the wheelchair.

Sorry about the rant but the subject kinda activated a forgotten memory. Gotta get'em down while you remember then. Hell, I remember having to type with one finger cause I didn't have the dexterity until that morning. It was quite an emotional morning as I found myself able to do more things. I remember doing a pull down on the weights and was able to quadruple the weight from the day before, not ashamed to say I cried like a baby several times that day.

Okay, back to the subject at hand.

Glad you're on the mend. Going under the orthopedic knife next Friday to repair a badly healed crushed hand. Ive been needing the surgery for close to a year, but the covid business locked down all the hospitals.

@PotomacBob

I'm reminded of a line from NYPD Blue, one of the officers was in the hospital I think it was the young Detective Martinez, anyway Sipowicz gave the younger cop a great piece of advice with a few nurses within earshot, "Make sure you pinch'em on the ass when they finish whatever they are doing. They like that."

Or words to that effect. I personally never got the chance but I did have the nurses fighting over who worked in the hall I was staying because daytime TV is not that great even with limited cable channels so I spent my time watching music videos on YouTube from my iPad and apparently the speakers in the hospital sounded better in the hallway than in the room I was listening to them in. I had the volume up high and it traveled.

I even took a few requests when someone needed to be actually in my room. It passed the time between exercise times.

Keep up with the recovery exercises they give you. They aren't doing it just for the hell of it, or to punish you. They will work, just too slowly for anyone actually going through them!

Keep fightin'!
