Tenses

G Younger ๐Ÿšซ

Besides all my other writing problems the one I need help with is tenses. Actually I am looking for an editor to help fix it. I think the first step in solving any problem is recognizing it.

Can anyone recommend an editor that is good with this? I find people that are good with spelling, homonyms, grammar, etc., but have not found someone to help with my tense issues.

If you don't want to post it here shoot me an email at gyounger1@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance.

I've sent emails to both my editors to see if they want to help you out.

Your welcome, I wasn't happy about putting his name out without him approving it, so I asked him to contact you direct. It seems we also share another editor. Just ask him to have a closer look at tenses for you, I had a long hard battle making him back off from tenses - but I write in the present tense.

If you don't mind my asking, what specifically is your issue with tenses: using the front tense which conflicts with the rest of the sentence, or inconsistent tenses between different story segments?

I'm fairly good about keeping my tenses straight, though I often mix -ing verbs in my predominately past-tense sentences. It partially helps to denote simultaneous actions.

My Uncle Don used to say, "We're way past tents, we live in bungalows now."

I can't say I've noticed anything out of order in the Stupid Boy stories to date.

When ya got a story where he meets himself coming and passes himself on the way out, and sees himself looking over his shoulder back at his self, that's a pretty weird tense right there... and there's his Cub Scout self hunkering down just over there in the park, hiding his self in the tents.

It reminds me of the "Big Bang Theory" episode about time-travels effect on tenses: "You mean the correct tense is 'never had have had brought'?

Yeah, that can get tricky, especially if you start second-guessing yourself, trying to pick your syntax apart.

I've never heard of a show called "Big Band Theory". What network is it on?

Big Band Theory: Play Louder!

Big Band Theory:

The full Big Band Theory is:

'A band with 40 band members costs ten times more than a band with 4 band members, therefor, it must sound ten times better and ten times louder.'

This theory was first put forward by the bandmaster D.F.'Aza' Post

And here I've always thought it was "more cowbells". 'D

I thought the big band was 76 Trombones. Or was it 110 Coronets?
