I like to read SOL stories in txt. It appears to me that txt is not an option on bookappy, which means I rarely buy books there that I otherwise would because the format I want is not available. Am I missing a format option?

The closest you'll get to txt is pdf on Bookapy.
For txt to be an option, the author would have to completely reformat his novel. Paragraph spacing, indents, centering, page breaks, italics, special characters, justification, etc.
I can think of a few reasons why .txt is not available. It's not a format you see on other book shops and it's too easy to edit, something most authors wouldn't want you to do.
That said, I wish a html format was available. I can get that by extracting it from an epub but there's so much crap in that (x)html that no matter how much I try to automate it, it still needs manual attention. The same would go if you wanted txt from an epub. Maybe there's an epub reader that lets you select and copy all text so that you can save it to a .txt file, I never looked for it.
Your best bet would be do run the html file through Calibre and convert it to either plain text or formatted rtf (text with markups). The extra 'junk' would still be there, but it would be easier to edit out.
Calibre is NOT the easiest program to master, but it's basic functionality is pretty straightforward. Though a better option would be to contact the author and ask them for a plain text version. As long as you've purchased the story, I doubt many would refuse. There is a risk that plain text presents a risk of unlawful distribution, but as a one-time request, I doubt many would reject it out of hand, and after you've developed a relationship with the author, he may supply one to you as he's publishing the story.
