Kindle word processor or convertor

oldegrump ๐Ÿšซ

I have started to read some files on Kindle. Is there a word processor (free, I'm cheap) or a file convertor (also free) that can do that from TXT or DOC file?

Yes to both. Amazon offers a FREE Kindle reader for most machines, plus virtually any modern phone or tablet also features Kindle readers. Plus, you can easily convert any e-document by using Calibre, a FREE open-source document converter. Plus, if you have any questions, many of us use it regularly, both for converting reading material and for producing our published books. So, we should be able to answer virtually any Calibre related questions, no matter how technical they are.

And good luck with your reading!

Update: Oops! I misread your note. You want to convert to Kindle. The Kindle viewer won't do that, but Calibre does it beautifully, though the commands in Calibre are not always very straightforward.

Try Calibre. It will let you import just about anything then convert it to just about anyhing.

If you are using a Kindle paperwhite, A fire tablet, or the Amazon Kindle reader for Android, your Amazon account if you registered properly will have an email address you can use to mail documents to your Kindle and Amazon will do the conversion for you. This service is free.

Note: they used to, but no longer support this function on the Kindle for PC app.

I use Calibre to convert my docx (not doc) files to mobi (Kindle) and epub. According to the Calibre documentation, TXT and TXTZ (whatever that is) are also valid input formats.

If you run into a file type you don't recognize just search for the acronym + "extension" and you will most likely find it in the first few results. The link was the first result searching for "TXTZ" extension.

I believe that txtz are simply compressed text files, much the same way that ePub is a series of compressed html files. Anyone with a slightly more technical answer for Switch?

See the link I provided in the post just before this. txtz is simply a zipped txt file. More and more software is able to handle zipped files directly, as in, they simply unzip in memory and process the file as if it wasn't zipped. An ebook is the same as you already stated. The modern LibreOffice and Word files are the same. You can unzip them and see what they contain.
