Asking the experts

Not really an author issue, but is there any way to block a particular author's work from the Stream? Just wondering because there is an individual I would rather not be impinged on my conscious mind more than absolutely necessary and they post frequently.

I'm thinking that's a bit out of a normal expectation. Just ignore the reference, I do all the time.

We can exclude category tags so it's not unreasonable to expect to also be able to block authors. I currently block nothing because I must be able to see everything for work for the ReaderInfo.net site but some authors seem to have a very sick mind and I would like it very much if I could block those.

His pictures are pretty decent at times, which is all I open his works for.

But then again, I've also been reading this webcomic for a LONG time, and I like the 3D modeling.

Same thought here.

I to be honest have grown sick of looking at the new stories, and seeing a dozen or more by him, most just 1 or 2k in length, mostly pictures. I have even been thinking of writing my own satire type of stories, maybe a Dark Tales one based on that style.

I've looked at a few. Not my cup of tea. But the stories mostly attract a decent readership that some more celebrated authors would be grateful for.

How about setting yourself up a local webserver (XAMPP?) with a bit of local code to scrape SOL's main page, parse, and offer up the feed without the bits you don't want. I did something similar shortly before I started using Linux so it was on WAMPP a decade or so ago (generate a page with just the weather map from the Met office weather site), but that laptop (an ancient Thinkpad 600E) was stolen from my car because I didn't notice that the central locking sometimes decided to unlock one of the doors after locking it, so I don't have it for reference.

I'm sure we all have our own way of reading SOL. When I sign in, I immediately go to My Stream to see if any of my stories have been updated. Then I try New Stories and glance at the first five or so. If they have a single line of tags, I read the description of the story. If they have two, three, or more lines of tags, I know that I'll want to skip that one. After that, I come to the Forum and check Lost Stories and Recommendations to see if any of the stories there catch my eye. That keeps me from wading through a lot of stories that don't interest me. Find your own way to browse that allows you to miss the squicks; there are enough good stories on this site to keep you reading for years.

We have a system where by we can mark an author to follow, I wonder how hard would it be for Lazeez to add a similar system where we can mark an author to not follow by blocking them the way we can with certain tags.

The general stream is cached and unfiltered.

Premier service offers filtering by codes and by author, but those only apply to the six services listed in the code exclusion preference page.

I keep the general stream unfiltered because many people lose a story when an author adds one of their blocked codes and they never see again and ask me about it. So it's a fallback.

That's a sensible fallback or failsafe position. Often, it's too easy to accidentally block your favorite authors, because for each given story, the individual codes vary widely.

Frankly, for everyone bitching about 'blocking' stories, I tend to see three (mostly privately) about them 'losing' their favorite authors.

If you used to spurt, but now you can't, you are an ex-spurt.

But if you used to dribble, and still do, then you're a lifelong basketball star, and can keep playing until your old age!

Soft or hard, if it goes in, and touches and the correct spots, it still counts. I've been long and hard, and soft and squishy, but despite it all, I'm still in the game, at least mentally!

I will take all that as a "No" then.
