Moving my appendix

CB ๐Ÿšซ

Not the anatomical kind ... lost that years ago.

I've got a story which includes a nautical vessel. In my full version on Bookapy I have included deck plans of the vessel in an appendix to supplement the descriptions in the narrative.

I've just started posting the story chapter by chapter on SOL. The vessel description is in chapter 2 and 3. I'd like to post the drawing after chapter three. What do I call it? Supplement? No title but just include it at the end of chapter 3?

Is there a term for when a bunch of pictures or other info is inserted in the middle of a book?

Thanks, and I look forward to the off topic diversions this post will inevitably lead to ... as long as someone includes a good answer to my original topic.

Ideal would be if the system supported a floating appendix while you continue to post new chapters in front of it. But I don't know if the SOL posting systems supports that.

I have seen dead tree books that put maps and other similar material in the front material.

I was thinking about something like a floating appendix also. Can you insert chapters between others?

I could also post the drawings as a separate story file and link to them in the chapter end notes. Then, clean it all up with the final chapter and true appendix.

Yes you can, however, it's manual upon request and prone to errors.

Also, we won't post just pictures as a standalone story, so don't try.

Appendixes are like Bibliographies (and similar to copyright notices, Other Books by the Author and/or Acknowledgments), which are considered back (or front)matter (i.e. they're not included as part of the ongoing story, but are easily accessible for those wanting to check details.

To get around that, when I'm first posting a story on SOL, I'll often post things like the current character list (updated with each chapter to avoid giving away story arcs), which I then shift to the end of the story once the story completes. It's more work, but it makes it easier to check which character is which in a REALLY long story.

Otherwise, it's generally easier to just include the illustration in the actual chapter post (just alert the Administrators to ensure that it posts successfully).

Appendixes

It was pointed out to me in this forum that the word 'appendixes' as I used/meant it should be 'appendices'. Never forgot it since so maybe this will help you to avoid it in the future :D

That's the trouble with relying on Google Lookup to determine the correct spelling, as often, it simply doesn't list the current entry at all!

That's why I rely more on dictionaries. They not only have the right spelling but also explain the meaning of the word :D
