One good thing

Uther_Pendragon ๐Ÿšซ

One good thing has come out of the lockdown (And the generous response by Lazeez):
Back in early June, I had only 114 stories that had at least one download in the past week.
The most recent figure is 168.
They all seem to be reading old stories.

When I get bored I will look at every authors page and see if I missed anything.

Like I said I do it when bored. Some authors you can skip within the first 2 pages by having stories that I would not want to read. Although I have found some gems that were completely different from all his other stories.

I just read one great story that was over 200k and had no sex so I went to his page and all the others were under 50k and full of sex.

@ystokes

under 50k

That's a high threshold for "too short." (It is, however, a single page. I used to consider anything under 1,000 words as my short stuff.

LOL!

The main reason I don't read anything under 100k is the better the story the more disappointed I am with it at the end. I just keep thinking there has to be more.

The main reason I don't read anything under 100k is the better the story the more disappointed I am with it at the end. I just keep thinking there has to be more.

In my case, I typically end each of my stories with several hints concerning what's next in the characters' lives, assuming the readers can imagine what follows in their own imagination, while also leaving the potential for a sequel, if I suddenly see a new way to take the story at a later date. So, while all of my stories have a definitive end (typically 20some chapters) I prefer leaving them 'open ended', so my readers can continue the story without me.

I do a lot of "big data" stuff for a day job which is why i keep on about offering collaborative filtering recommendations etc.

Another cool data-driven thing is "show me once-popular stories that haven't been read much recently" etc. There was a cool app for Spotify that listed songs that had never been played, and as a consequence a lot of good music was discovered and shared. The parallels are obvious.
