reading your own stories

oldegrump ๐Ÿšซ

Good evening;

This is kind of a simple question. Do you go back and read your own posted stories? I mean do you read them after a month or more?

I find myself reading mine and critiquing them. For the most part, I like them.

Do you go back and read your own posted stories?

I don't think I ever have. I sometimes skim one to intelligently reply to a feedback from a reader if I don't remember the story.

ayep, it's one way to know you're reading a good story. It also helps me to find typos and errors as well as spot where I can smooth the language.

I do. sometimes, I bring them out just to lightly edit and enjoy a story I know I will like.

I have quite a few WIPs. I find that going over them is relaxing and enjoyable. I might even get inspired.

I shudder when I read my first stories on this site. I didn't have help of any kind and I didn't have Word or Grammarly to help me.

They are pretty bad grammatically. Some time around "Do you have a big dick? Why not?" they got better.

If I re-read them I always end up editing them and trying to fix them even though literally it is like they are in a garbage bin full of DVDS of Pauly Shore movies and nobody is looking at them.

Keeps the many characters of my universe fresh in my mind, for one thing. Other thing is that I wrote the stories I wanted to read, and as age affects memory, some parts seem quite new to me.

Heh in your case you have to. Is it 3 Dan's now, and a plethora of interlocking characters.

I have a cheat sheet for my characters, and even that doesn't keep me straight sometimes.

I have a cheat sheet for my characters, and even that doesn't keep me straight sometimes.

I use character cheat sheets, but still can't keep the names of my characters consistent, as I'll frequently misspell a name in a given chapter and then continue using the misspelling, rather than the correct one.

With 3 Dans, it's much easier keep track of the correct spelling, though identifying which Dan is Nick is tougher. 'D

Dan

Dan backward is Nad. Go Dan! Go Nad!

Gonad is a reproductive gland (such as an ovary or testis) that produces gametes. No Gonads, no sex and no sex stories.

Dan backward is Nad. Go Dan! Go Nad!

Does that make them Dan's Nads (though that's not quite the same backwards)? And does that make us gameters, or just gamers for short? But, the lack of sex does NOT mean the end of sexy stories, nor the end of literature.

How do you delete them altogether, or cut them from the site, work on them and put them back in the same vein but 'improved' in literal and grammatical content? I cant seem to work out how to do it.

Fixing old stories is easy, you just 'repost' them. Even if you cut or add chapters, the new story structure simply replaces the older story, just as the new chapters replace the old ones.

However, if you simply replace a chapter, you won't get much credit for it, and few will notice it. A better approach is to 'retire' the story, let it sit while you rework the old one, and then 'repost' it, especially if you retitle it (while simultaneously marking it "Previously posted as ..."). That way everyone knows that you have revised the story, and they'll be curious what's changed in it. And if there's enough time between the two versions, they won't remember precisely how the first read (i.e. fewer direct compassions of the two).

I don't deliberately read whole stories I've posted. Most of what I've put up for the last year or more, however, have been reposts -- frequently mergers of old stories. Then, I mostly reread them as I go.

I am a compulsive reviser. If I'm going through something, I almost always change the wording.

Thank you all. I just thought I was being Anal Retentive about correcting errors. I know I am a tight ass about money, but I did not want to think I was about my stories.
