How to Set Word's Read-Aloud Speed?

Vincent Berg ๐Ÿšซ

A know the subject has come up before, but I can't remember who replied. But after having used the feature several times, I'm getting frustrated that I have to manually adjust the settings (from super slow to Speedy Gonzolas fast), every time I review another chapter.

Is there ANYWAY to set the speed, once and for all, across the entire system? As far as I can see, the ONLY way to access it (at least on Macs) is via the "Review" command, as there don't seem to be any menu items for it. "Review" under "Preferences" doesn't list it either.

Yeah, I've know that your approach is an option, but keep trying to go through specific apps. I had on Speechify, which was nice since it utilizes Apple's various voices, but Word's is nice since you're IN the document you're editing already, rather than having to jump between competing apps. But, without anyway of permanently setting the reading speed, I think I'll need to use your approach of setting a specific 'read aloud' key (which I'll never remember, just as I can never remember Apple's many copy/print screen commands).

There's eSpeak for Linux, Windows, Mac OSX, Android, and Solaris: eSpeak.
Like any other TTS software you need to learn how to use it. To get the best results you might have to tweak speed, gaps, etc. but then it sounds quite good although a little metallic.
It supports multiple languages although not all will have the same quality as English.
The biggest advantage is that you can use the same software on multiple different operating systems and devices.
