word 2019 and the built in audio reader

shaddoth1 ๐Ÿšซ

I just, a week plus late, received my new Lappy, broke down and purchased word 2019.
Looking around the new, to me, features, I noticed an audio reader.
I tried it out on a story that I am writing which needed editing.

The results surprised and delighted me. Just by listening to someone else read aloud my story, I caught a great many errors. (saving my editor lots of brain power before it even leaves my comp.)

Gods, I wish I discovered this two years ago.

The audio reader embedded in word 2019 is highly recommended by me for those who wish to save their editors some time and effort.

Shad.

Yep, use it all the time. Especially if I'm not sure if I spelled a word right (which happen more than I care to admit). Also, hearing the text catches a lot of silly errors.

I got the recommendation of using an audio reader a week ago. Oh my God, I am deeply ashamed of the words I had posted before it. So basically everything.

Also, fixed wholes in my vocabulary. Ichor is not pronounced at all how I thought. I was reading it icker not Eye-Core. Now I need a new name for a potential supervillain thinking Icarus and Ichorous were homophones.

'Side Suit', a veiled reference to the current POTUS ;)

Side Suit doesn't really make me think Psychonautic Acid Angel.

Where is it in Word?

At the very top in the left-hand corner, you will see what looks like a cartoon balloon caption.

Click on the Review tab. Highlight the text you want read out loud and click on Speak.

Word for Mac was often feature incomplete with the Windows version. I find that to be less so with Office 365, but there are still things missing.

This feature, on the other hand, is actually there in Office 365 on the Mac. As G Younger says, it's on the 'Review' tab (with an icon that looks like an A with sound arcs moving to the right and the words 'read aloud' underneath).

Try Speechify in the App Store.

The only icon under review with an "A" has "language" under it.

Sorry, that wasn't my post, as I have Word for Mac 2019, which doesn't support that feature. Though, as an alternative strategy, simply convert your document to epub, using Calibre, and then have Apple Books read it aloud. It does the same thing, and doesn't cost you a cent/farthing.

I use Apache Open Office. Anything like that for us avoiders of Word?

LibreOffice. It's a fork of OpenOffice but more advanced in development.
