Is there some way to block specific writers from a person's general feed and/or search results?
There are some prolific writers I just do NOT like and it sure would be convenient to exclude them from things like category searches.

Yes, but they are premier-level options.
Click on the gear icon at the top of the mobile site's home page, or "My Account" at the top of the desktop site's homepage. Look for "Edit Category Exclusion Preferences" near the bottom of the page and "Edit Author Exclusion Preferences" should be right below it.
Unless you have premier account access you won't see those options.
As Laz has said several times here, there is one place where that setting is ignored:
The Home page. It is one-size-fits-all.

Except that with Premier membership you can access "Edit Random Story Display Preferences" which will allow you to block storey categories, not authors, but it helps to weed out undesirable content.

That works for the stories shown on the Random Stories page accessed by clicking on the More button above the random story shown on the SOL Home Page. That random story on the home page is still not subject to your personal preferences.
