Forget the differences between BrE and AmE. How about the differences between different parts of the U.S.? Like "soda vs pop" or "sneakers vs tennis shoes" or "lollipop vs sucker."

btw, Merriam-Webster added over 1,000 new words. "Welp" is now a word.

I am a Wisconsinite. I've never heard tag sale.

Garage sale, yard sale, and rummage sale all get used here.

Rummage sale is a general term. If you set out your rummage for sale in your front yard, it's a yard sale. If you set it up in your garage and/or drive way, it's a garage sale.

Then there are the larger venues "Flea Market" vs "Swap Meet". I've even heard them called Community Garage Sales.

I've heard all three of these used. However, while the first two are held in a car park or market area or vacant lot the last is usually organised as a number of people having a garage sale on the same day or weekend as a fund raising event and each location has a list of other locations involved in it.

Around here the last is either a church fundraiser or a civic community thing held at a park or some such.

Rummage sale is a general term. If you set out your rummage for sale in your front yard, it's a yard sale. If you set it up in your garage and/or drive way, it's a garage sale.

Rummage sale is when you and your neighbors take stuff to the church parking lot.
